Barrel Programs

At Bluegrass Distillers, we take pride in crafting spirits that are as distinctive as the people and communities we serve. Our barrel programs invite individuals, retailers, and nonprofit organizations to share in that craftsmanship—each offering a one-of-a-kind experience rooted in Kentucky tradition and generosity.

Single Barrel Program

Cask strength. Non-chill filtered. Entirely unique.

Every barrel tells its own story, shaped by time, temperature, and care. Our Single Barrel Program allows individuals and retailers to discover a bourbon that speaks directly to their palate and customers. Each selection reflects the character of its barrel—no two are ever the same.

Participants can sample remotely or schedule an in-person barrel pick at our distillery for a firsthand look at our operations. Half and quarter barrel options are available, and every selection comes with the craftsmanship and authenticity that define Bluegrass Distillers.

Five-Gallon Barrel Program

Looking for a truly one-of-a-kind bourbon for weddings, gifts, or personal celebrations? Our Five-Gallon Barrel Program offers a rare opportunity to craft something uniquely yours.

Each barrel begins with years of aging in full-sized casks before spending its final two to three months finishing onsite in a five-gallon barrel. Once ready, your bourbon is hand-bottled and personalized with custom labels—names, dates, logos, or any special touch you choose. And as a keepsake, the empty five-gallon barrel is yours to take home and display.

The Process

Step 1: Select Your Finish

Choose between a level three char for caramel and toffee richness, or a medium toast for sweeter vanilla notes with a hint of spice.

Step 2: Age Your Bourbon

A carefully selected barrel of Mash Bill #1 Bourbon is secondarily aged in your chosen 5-gallon finish for 2–3 months.

Step 3: Bottle Your Batch

Each bottle is hand-filled and labeled with your personalized design.

Step 4: Pick Up Your Barrel

Collect your bottles and barrel, and enjoy your one-of-a-kind bourbon

Philanthropy Barrel Program

Since its inception in 2018, our Philanthropy Barrel Program has raised over $110,000 for Kentucky-based nonprofits and contributed an additional $100,000 to other community initiatives. Through this program, Bluegrass Distillers partners with local non-profits each to create custom single-barrel releases that support important causes across the Commonwealth.

From Habitat for Humanity and the Lexington Humane Society to the Epilepsy Foundation and the Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund, this initiative reflects our deep commitment to giving back. Each month, a selected nonprofit receives $15 for every bottle sold from its dedicated barrel, available exclusively at our Elkwood Farm gift shop.

Program Details & Criteria

Beyond fundraising, the Philanthropy Barrel Program helps nonprofits build visibility and strengthen community ties. We promote our partners and their missions through our distillery’s marketing channels, while organizations are encouraged to amplify awareness through press releases, newsletters, and events.

This is more than a partnership—it’s a shared effort to make Kentucky stronger, one bottle at a time.
